Even though it is not such a popular event as football or hockey, horse riding lovers can find interesting events and places to go in New York.
The New York Racing Association is a non profit organization that has worked along several years to develop good quality tracks and important races in the state of New York. The three main horse riding tracks of the state are grouped under its care, providing excellent facilities.
Aqueduct - Located in Ozone Park in Queens, it is the unique major track in the City. With a capacity for 40.000 spectators and an inner track to facilitate winter racing, it holds live racing from October through May.
Belmont Park – Just a few blocks from the Queens border, in Elmont, Belmont is a 430-acre racetrack, with excellent facilities that can host up to 90.000 spectators.
Saratoga – Located in Saratoga Springs, Saratoga Race Course a 350-acre racetrack with a capacity for 50.000 visitors. Even being a little far from the city, it is a wonderful place to enjoy open air horse racing since it has a beautiful park where breakfast and special parties had become a long term tradition.
The main race in New York is Belmont Stakes, the final leg of the Triple Crown, which is normally held at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY, in early June. Another important event is the Triple Tiara which takes place in Belmont Park.
