Ice Hockey is one of the four major professional sports in the United States alongside with baseball, football and basketball.
New York City is one of the biggest hockey venues of the country. This is partly due to the acceptance and fascination this game exercises over its inhabitants, which is much related to the popularity of the city’s teams, the New York Rangers and the New York Islanders.
The Rangers are one of the most popular teams of the country and they are also well known at international level. They have won 4 Stanley Cups, 5 Division Championships and 1 Conference Championship and their home arena is the Madison Square Garden. The Islanders on the other hand have conquered 4 Stanley Cups, 6 Conference Championships and 6 Division Championships and they play as locals in the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island.
The Hockey Season in the US starts in September with the Exhibition Season, then in October the Regular Season starts, lasting until April when the finals are played. Between April and the first days of June takes place the postseason, when teams play the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
