The education system of New York State has plenty of different kinds of colleges and universities, including community colleges, 2 year colleges (private and state), specialist career colleges, 4 year colleges and universities (private and state). In order to study in the US, students need to request the admission of the Educational Center which is done by fulfilling an application. Once accepted into the institution a student visa has to be requested on the nearest United States´ consulate.

- The City University of New York (with three different types of institutions Senior Colleges, Community Colleges and Graduate/Professional Schools).
The private sector is composed by 146 independent colleges and universities (private non for profit institutions) and 42 proprietary colleges.
