The education system of New York State has different kinds of colleges and universities, including community colleges, 2 year colleges (private and state), specialist career colleges, 4 year colleges and universities (private and state). Among the educational offer of New York City you can find everything from medicine to arts and from business to social sciences.

In order to study in the US, students need to request the admission of the Educational Center which is done by fulfilling an application. Once accepted into the institution a student visa has to be requested on the nearest United States' Consulate.

The courses prices vary depending on the level and institution as well as the subject. Since they are not cheap at all, many institutions (especially Universities) offer grants or financial aid to pay for your studies as well as accommodation. It is advisable to check at the institution that offers the course if grants are available or stay alert about government’s programs and possible bilateral agreements with your country.

In New York there are 2 State university systems:

- The State University of New York, which divides its campuses into four distinct categories (university centers/doctoral-granting institutions, university colleges, technology colleges, and community colleges).

- The City University of New York (with three different types of institutions Senior Colleges, Community Colleges and Graduate/Professional Schools).

The private sector is composed by 146 independent colleges and universities (private non for profit institutions) and 42 proprietary colleges.

Besides the richness of its educational system, New York is a multi-cultural city which allows students to grow and learn from other cultures by living and working together with colleagues and classmates from the entire world.
