The Museum of the Moving Image is an institution that works towards society’s understanding of the art, technique and evolution of film, television and digital media. It collects, preserves and exhibits different artifacts related to the moving image as well as films from different time periods.
It is located in 35th Avenue on the site of the Astoria studio (one of the largest television production facilities in the U.S) in Queens, New York, and it attracts thousands of visitors every year.
The Museum of the Moving Image houses more than 130,000 objects which cover every stage of producing, promoting, and exhibiting motion pictures, television, and digital media. From still photographs to video games, visitors could discover how the image and film industry have evolved and how production materials have influenced said evolution, being in many cases the impulse for changes.
Besides its permanent core exhibition (called “Behind the Screen” which is a recap of the industry’s evolution), special events such as panel discussions about current movies are frequently held at the Museum of the Moving Image.
