Located in the Bronx Park, the Bronx Zoo is both the largest metropolitan zoo in the USA and a New York City landmark. It is home of more than 4000 animals of 600 different species (many of them in danger of extinction) and it attracts almost 2 million visitors every year.
Each group of animals is located in a naturalistic habitat according to its characteristics.
Lions, cheetahs, zebras and giraffes shear the environment of a typical savanna in the African Plains exhibition. Madagascar recreates the flora of the island and is home of its one-of-a-kind wildlife. In Congo Gorilla Forest, visitors could go nose-to-nose with huge African gorillas. As in Far East Russia, the beautiful Siberian tigers can be seen in the Tiger Mountain. Jungle World is a typical Asian rain forest that homes langurs, tapirs and gibbons, among other exotic species.
Enjoy other outstanding exhibits such as: Monkey House, Butterfly Garden, World of Reptiles, World of Birds, Himalayan Highlands and Big Bears, among others.
Every year, different seasonal exhibitions are organized at the Bronx Zoo as well as educational activities, which could be a great excuse to get lost into the wild at the heart of New York.
